Nacene

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

Noncorporeal extragalactic life-forms. The Nacene originated outside of our galaxy and exist as pure sporocystian energy woh can travel through subspace, although they can manifest themselves in solid humanoid form. A group of Nacene explorers visited our galaxy a millennium ago, accidentally devastating the envoronment of the Ocampa planet in the delta Quadrant. Two Nacene individuals, one known as the Caretaker, and another called Suspiria, remained behind to care for the Ocampa. VOY "Caretaker, Part 1" 1-1

Nanites

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

Planet: Kavis Alpha IV. A race of sentient submicroscopic robotic life-forms, created by the Federation, which are recognized as sentient on Stardate 43125.8, and given rights to colonize their own planet. TNG "Evolution" 3-49

Napeans

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

A race of partially empathic humanoids from Napea II. The Napeans are members of the Federation but take little interest in the rest of the galaxy. The Napeans are physically very similar to Terrans and Betazoids. Genetic analysis leads to the supposition that the Napean race is a transplanted cross between the two races, yet just different enough to be detected. Most Napian do not bother to use or cultivate their Psi skills, as their training techniques can take years for what Betazoids and Vulcans learn in weeks. Those that perfect their Empathic and limited Telepathic skills serve professionally in Napian culture. TNG "Eye of the Beholder" 7-170

Nausicaan

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

Tall, surly, ill-tempered humanoids from some unknown planet in deep space. After 60 years of contacts between the Nausicaans, there is still little known about them. They have scattered outposts on the borders of the Federation near Ferengi space, leading to the theory that their homeworld is somewhere in their sphere of influence. Nausicaans are generally very inhospitable with vaguely lizard like faces and have attacked people with little provocation.TNG "Tapestry" 6-141

Nebulans

Non-Canon - Original Borderlands Trek PBEM RPG Race

Stoneage technology race living on the planet supported by the nebula near Phoenix. They are a touch telepathic race, whose DNA contains the natural core ingredient to ketracel white - which is used in both the Lust Drug production, and for Jem'Hadar maintenance. Twice, Federation forces have had to rescue the Nebulans from invaders - first, a mercenary camp of Jem'Hadar had set up shop, using the Nebulans to fuel their white addiction, while staying independant of the Founders; second, Lust runners had set up a manufacturing site, where they used the natives to source their product. In the second instance, Horizon forces aided Phoenix forces in the raid that put the Lust operation out of business. An interesting side effect of the Nebula itself, is the telepathic energy that seems to meld with the sentient brain. A microscopically thin web develops around the brain tissue, creating an artificial, telepathic 'antenna' within the individual. The first visit to the nebula is the interaction that prompts the brain to create the web. On second and subsequent visits, the web acts as storage for memories of heightened emotions or times of stress. The more emotions involved, the more stress, the more the web stores - and feeds back to the brain, causing a memory feedback loop that, with most sentient species, rapidly shuts down the conscious mind. Dr. Raynor, a previous CMO on Phoenix, developed an immunization to the web, which is now a required immunization for anyone knowingly going into the nebula. Nebula One (the planet) is considered off limits to all but scientific study teams, due to the primitive nature of the indiginous species.

Noophian

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

A race that culturally prefers efficiency and modernism over any need for history or reverence for older artifacts. A Noophian on Earth would question why so much history had been preserved. TNG "Brothers" 4-77

Novans

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

Refers to the descendants of the original Terra Nova colonists, who live underground. The Novans did not believe they were descended from humans, instead thinking that humans were the ones responsible for the "Poison Rain" that contaminated their planet and sent them underground. Captain Archer eventually convinced them that their "go-befores" were, in fact, human, and relocated them to a safer side of the planet. ENT "Terra Nova" 1-6

Nyrian

Canon - Official Star Trek alien race

Technologically advanced humanoid ccivilization from the Delta Quadrant. The Nyrians had adbanced long-range transporter systems called translocators that they used to abduct crews of passing spacecraft andnearby space station. Using their translocators, they replacedthe crews of those ships and stations with Nyrian ersonnel. thereby gaining control of those vessels. Despite these acts of piracy, the Nyrians considered themselves a benevolent people, and they went to considerable lengths to care for those whose ships they had stolen. In 2373, Nyrian operatives abducted the crew of Voyager. The captivity did not last long, for Boyager captina Janeway and her crew were successful in escaping from the Nyrian vessel. In the process, they persuaded the Nyrians to release the prisoners held in the other environments on the Nyrian ship. VOY "Displaced" 3-67
